Large shrub or small tree up to 6 m tall. Branches covered with white bark, stout, erect. Leaves large 6-12 cm long, ovate or elliptic, turn bright yellow in autumn. Can grow on shallow rocky soil. Very ornamental in group. Z 6 (5). New.

Caucasus (western Transcaucasus). On rocky slopes at 1,000-1,500 m.
