Climbers large, woody, with pendulous branches. Leaves opposite. Spikes terminal or axillary from uppermost nodes, often panicled, on pendulous peduncles; midvein of bracteoles flexible, mucronate. Tepals 5, rigid. Stamens 5; filaments shortly connate at base, alternating with pseudostaminodes, pseudostaminodes oblong, long fimbriate; anthers 2-loculed. Ovary oblong, compressed; style slender; stigma minute. Fruit oblong, 1-seeded, indehiscent.
