Gentiana sect. Megacodon Hemsley in F. B. Forbes & Hemsley, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 26: 137. 1890; Gentiana sect. Stylophora C. B. Clarke.

Herbs perennial. Roots stout, slightly fleshy. Stems erect, terete, stout, 1-1.5 cm in diam. at base, striate, simple. Basal leaves 2-4 pairs, small, membranous. Middle to upper stem leaves larger than lower leaves, herbaceous, base obtuse to rounded and subamplexicaul. Inflorescences a thyrse. Pedicel subtended by 2 bracts. Flowers large, nodding, 5merous, with 2 bracts at base of pedicel. Pedicel slightly nodding, elongated in fruit. Calyx campanulate, lobed to below middle. Corolla campanulate, lobed to below middle; lobes with distinct reticulate veins; plicae absent. Stamens inserted at middle of corolla tube; filaments flattened; anthers ellipsoid. Ovary 1celled. Style stout; stigma 2lobed. Nectaries in a whorl on gynophore. Capsules 2valved, many seeded. Seeds light brown, ellipsoid, wingless.

Two species: Bhutan, SW China, India, Nepal, Sikkim; both species in China.
