Climbers dioecious. Stems drying brownish black, strong, tomentose. Petiole 4-6 mm, tomentose, sheathed at base only; leaf blade ovate to ovate-lanceolate or elliptic, 4.5-18 × 2.2-8 cm, papery, glandular, abaxially tomentose, especially on veins, most hairs forked, adaxially glabrous or sometimes pubescent at base, base obliquely rounded, apex acuminate; veins 7, apical pair arising 1-2 cm above base, alternate, others basal; reticulate veins prominent Spikes leaf-opposed. Male spikes 6-11 cm × ca. 2 mm; peduncle 0.5-4 cm, tomentose; bracts orbicular, ca. 1 mm wide, peltate, abaxially with 2-5 long hairs, base usually serrulate, stalked. Stamens 3; filaments nearly absent; anthers globose. Female spikes ca. 8 cm, to 5 mm thick in fruit; peduncle, rachis, and bracts as in male spikes. Drupe obovoid, distinct, ca. 2 mm, apex slightly rough. Fl. Feb-Apr.
