Herbs perennial. Leaves forming a rosette; petiole indistinct to 1/2 as long as leaf blade; leaf blade oblong to narrowly ovate or lanceolate, 25--50 X 6--16 mm, enlarging to 8 X 2.8 cm at fruiting, efarinose, abaxially sparsely minutely glandular, base attenuate, margin erose-denticulate, apex rounded to obtuse. Scapes 10--12 cm, elongating to 40 cm in fruit, glandular puberulous toward apex; umbels 6--20-flowered; bracts ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, 5--6 mm, base slightly saccate. Pedicel 0.8--1.2 cm, elongating to 1.5 cm in fruit, densely glandular puberulous. Flowers heterostylous. Calyx tubular to tubular-campanulate, 6--7.5 mm, ± constricted at base, sparsely minutely glandular, parted to 1/3; lobes ovate to oblong, apex subobtuse. Corolla violet; tube ca. as long as calyx; limb 1.2--1.5 cm wide; lobes broadly obovate, deeply emarginate. Pin flowers: stamens at middle of corolla tube; style reaching mouth. Thrum flowers: stamens in upper 1/2 of corolla tube; style ca. 1 mm. Capsule oblong, slightly longer than calyx. Fl. May. 2n = 16@.
