Herbs perennial. Basal bud scales inconspicuous at anthesis. Leaves 4--10 X 1--3 cm at anthesis, to 6--17 X 4--7.5 cm at fruiting; petiole to 1/2 of blade; leaf blade at anthesis oblong-obovate to obovate, tapering to base forming a short winged petiole, margin irregularly sharp dentate, apex rounded; leaf blade at fruiting obovate-elliptic to oblong and dentate-lobulate. Scapes ca. as long as petiole at anthesis, elongating to 29 cm in fruit; umbel solitary, (2--)4- to many flowered; bracts triangular to ovate-triangular, 3--6(--8) mm. Pedicel 1.5--2.5 cm, elongating to 3 cm in fruit, glandular or sparsely farinose. Flowers heterostylous. Calyx campanulate, 6--7 mm, glandular or pale yellow farinose, parted to middle; lobes ovate to triangular, apex acute to obtuse. Corolla bluish purple; tube 1.1--1.3 cm; limb 1.5--2.5 cm wide; lobes broadly obovate, deeply emarginate; lobules entire. Pin flowers: stamens near middle of corolla tube; style slightly exserted. Thrum flowers: stamens at upper 1/3 of corolla tube; style 5--6 mm. Capsule subglobose, 4--5 mm in diam., included in calyx, disintegrating at maturity.
