Roots rather long, thick. Bulb solitary or clustered, cylindric; tunic grayish brown, fibrous, sometimes subreticulate. Leaves linear, usually shorter than scape, 2--5 mm wide, midvein distinct. Scape lateral, 13--15 cm, terete, usually 2-angled, covered with leaf sheaths only at base. Spathe 1(--3)-valved, persistent. Umbel hemispheric, laxly flowered. Pedicels 1--3 × as long as perianth, ebracteolate. Perianth purple to dark purple; segments elliptic-oblong, 7--9 × 3--4 mm, apex retuse to obtuse or acuminate; inner ones slightly longer than outer. Filaments ca. 2/3 as long as perianth segments, connate into a tube for 2/3--3/4 their length; outer ones narrowly triangular; inner ones broadened at base, shoulder-shaped or triangular. Ovary ovoid-globose, tuberculate; ovules 2 per locule. Style shorter than ovary; stigma 3-cleft. Fl. and fr. Jun--Aug.
