Colania tonkinensis Gagnepain, Bull. Mus. Hist. Nat. (Paris), sér. 2, 6: 190. 1934.

Rhizome terete, 4--5 mm thick. Leaves solitary, spaced; petiole 10--13 cm; leaf blade lanceolate-oblong, 13--20 × 4--5.5 cm, margin slightly undulate. Scape ca. 3 cm; bracts ca. 5. Flower solitary. Perianth campanulate, 6-lobed apically; tube dull purple, speckled with dark purple-red adaxially and pale purple abaxially, 2--2.3 × 1.6--1.8 cm; lobes white adaxially, dull purple with pale purple speckles abaxially, ovate to semiorbicular, 1--1.2 × ca. 1.2 cm. Stamens 6, inserted near base of perianth tube, subsessile; anthers reniform. Style white, articulate; stigma peltate, large. Fl. Oct--Nov. 2 n = 36*.
