Shrubs or small trees. Branchlets, petioles, and leaf blade midveins reddish brown tomentose. Petiole 1--2 cm; leaf blade narrowly elliptic, elliptic, or obovate-elliptic, 9--27 X 3--10 cm, papery, abaxially rusty to brownish pubescent to tomentose, base broadly cuneate to subrounded, margin subentire to serrulate, apex acuminate to acute; leaf blade lateral veins 7--14 pairs, abaxially very prominent, strictly parallel, quite straight, curved upwards towards margin and nearly reaching it. Spikes 6--11 cm, 3--5-branched from base, axis and bracts reddish brown tomentose to pubescent; bracts ovate, ca. 3(--10) mm; bractlets triangular ovate, ca. 2 mm. Ovary 0.5--1 mm, glabrous, surrounded by a calycle formed from bracts and bractlets. Calyx lobes slightly connate at base, reddish brown tomentose, ca. 2(--3) mm. Stamens 60--80. Disc annular to cylindrical, glabrous. Drupes ampulliform to globose, 5--7 X 4--5 mm, apex with persistent conic calyx lobes. Fl. Aug-Sep, fr. Oct-Nov.
