Description from Flora of China
Tsuga patens Downie, Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 14: 16. 1923; T. chinensis subsp. patens (Downie) E. Murray.
Branchlets brownish yellow or brown, 1.5-2 mm in diam. Seed cones ovoid-globose, 2-2.5 × 1.8-2 cm. Seed scales almost square, thick, exposed part smooth and shining.
