Bryoxiphium Mitt., J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 12: 580. 1869.

The description of the genus is the same as that of its family.

Bryoxiphium generally consists of 3 (or 4) closely related species. X.-J. Li (1958) reported two species, Bryoxiphium norvegicum (Brid.) Mitt. and B. japonicum (Berggr.) Löve & Löve (= B. norvegicum ssp. japonicum) from mainland China. C. Chuang (1973) reported the latter species from Taiwan.


1 Plants 1-3 cm high; perichaetial leaves slightly serrulate at the tips; the dorsal lamella narrow, often consisting of one row of cells   1a Bryoxiphium norvegicum ssp. norvegicum
+ Plants 3-5 cm high; perichaetial leaves clearly serrulate at the tips; the dorsal lamella wider, often consisting of 2-3 rows of elongate cells developed from the base to the apex   1b Bryoxiphium norvegicum ssp. japonicum
