Plants small, ca. 10 mm high, green to yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched. Leaves narrowly ovate-lanceolate, usually contorted when dry, erect-spreading when moist; margins entire, revolute; costa stout, percurrent; upper leaf cells green, rounded hexagonal, thick-walled, smooth or rarely with single low papilla; basal cells irregularly rectangular, thin-walled, smooth, hyaline. Gemmae present, numerous, club-shaped, often in the leaf axils.

Type. Japan: Nagano Pref., Togakushi, Uematsu 779.

Habitat: on rocks or soil walls; Distribution: China and Japan.
