Plants minute, 2.0–2.8 mm high, green to yellowish green. Stems erect, simple. Leaves linear with a scarcely broader base, somewhat crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, 1.2–2.4 mm long, acute, moderately keeled-concave; costa strong, single, percurrent or nearly so; margins plane, entire; upper leaf cells quadrate to subquadrate, 7.5–10.0 µm wide, thick-walled, 2–3 stratose at the margins; median cells subquadrate to short rectangular, 7.5–12.5 µm wide, thick-walled; basal cells short rectangular to rectangular, hyaline, thin-walled, 25–37 µm × 10.0–12.5 µm, several rows of longer cells at the basal margins. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves larger than stem leaves. Setae elongate, 4–7 mm long, yellowish, erect to suberect when dry, flexuous to cygneous when moist; capsules erect, yellowish, short cylindric, 0.4–0.6 mm long, tapered at the base, smooth; annuli well-developed, consisting of thick-walled cells; peristome teeth linear-lanceolate, reddish brown, nearly smooth below, densely papillose above. Spores ca. 10 µm in diameter, smooth.

Type. Germany: Braunschweig, Schrader s.n.

Chinese specimens examined: JILIN: Chang-bai Mountain, Belland & X. Fu 23905, 24163, 24439, 24470, 25001, 25252, 25627, 25876 (ALTA, IFSBH). TAIWAN: Chia-yi Co., C.-C. Chuang 6455 (UBC).

Habitat; on moist and shaded volcanic boulders; Distribution: China, Japan, Europe, and North America.

This species was reported from Taiwan by Tan (1994).
