Small or medium sized shrubs. Leaves with short petiole, entire or dentate. Inflorescence an axillary or terminal cyme with 1-many flowers. Calyx tube narrow, angular with 5-linear lobes, persistent. Corolla tubular or campanulate, lobes 5, rounded. Stamens 4, in pairs. Ovary 34ocular, with a single fertile ovule in each loculus. Style filiform, stigma capitate. Fruit achene-like, dry, one-seeded with persistent calyx lobes.

A genus of about 80 species distributed mostly in Himalaya and East Asia. One species from Mexico. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
