Herbs with opposite leaves, often glandular. Inflorescence capitate or paniculate. Flowers small, sessile or with jointed pedicels, bracteate. Perianth infundibuliform or campanulate, 5-lobed. Stamens 5-1, exserted; filaments connate at the base. Stigma peltate or capitate. Anthocarp clavate, turbinate, fusiform or obovoid, usually 5-ribbed, often glandular.
A genus of c. 40 species, tropical to subtropical, S. Europe and S. United States. Represented in Pakistan by 4-5 species.
