Shrubs. Leaves simple, alternate. Flowers paniculate, bi-or unisexual by reduction, 5-merous. Fruiting pedicels of sterile flowers very long and ± plumose. Styles 3, lateral. Fruit a dry 1-seeded drupe.
A genus of 3 species. 1 species native to South Eastern U.S.A., 1 species to S.W. China and the remaining one distributed from C. & S. Europe to the Himalaya. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species only.
