Herbs with slender, glabrous or pubescent stems which are mostly repent. Leaves cordate-orbicular to reniform with long petioles small, entire. Flowers incospicuous, axillary, greenish-yellow, solitary and pedicellate. Corolla broadly campanulate, deeply 5-lobed, the lobes induplicate. Ovary bilobate, 4-ovuled, the lobes distinct or basally united. Styles 2, attached between the ovary lobes and appearing almost gynobasic. Fruit capsular or utriculate, membranous, usually 1-seeded, irregularly bivalvate or indehiscent. Seeds subglobose, smooth.

A small genus of about 12 species scattered throughout the tropics. One American species has been introduced in Pakistan.
