Herbs with climbing stems and adventitious roots. Leaves entire or lobed, sometimes variegated. Flowers bisexual, naked. Stamens 4, the anthers dehiscing extrorsely. Ovary 1-locular with 1 lateral placenta bearing 2-8 ovules near the base. Berry few-seeded.

30 species from the Himalayas to the Pacific. Differs from Rhaphidophora in having fewer ovules and seeds which are reniform instead of globose. Represented in Pakistan by 1 cultivated species.
