Annuals. Leaf-blades flat. Inflorescence a panicle. Spikelets (1-)2-many-flowered, terete or slightly compressed; glumes unequal, shorter than the florets, the lower, 1-nerved, the upper 3-nerved; lemmas rounded on the back or faintly keeled at the base, herbaceous, indistinctly 5-nerved, obtuse, abruptly acute or acuminate; palea equal to or shorter than the lemma, 2-keeled.
A genus of perhaps only 2 species in the Middle East, southern USSR and the Himalayas; both species occur in Pakistan.
