Annual. Leaf-blades flat, folded or convolute, auricled at the base. Inflorescence a cylindrical spike bearing alternate distichous spikelets closely appressed to cavities in the fragile rhachis. Spikelets lanceolate-oblong, awnless, with 1-2 bisexual florets, the rhachilla produced and bearing a third, vestigial floret. Glumes equal, placed side by side, the lower broader than the upper and overlapping it on one margin; lemmas nearly as long as the glumes, membranous, 3-5-nerved; palea 2-keeled.

A genus of 2 species in West and Central Asia, 1 of them in Pakistan.
