Roots tuberous; scaly or covered with fibres. Leaves radical, linear, distinctly nerved. Flowers in clusters, racemes or solitary, trimerous, hermaphrodite. Ovary inferior, trilocular, placentae axile; style short, columnar; stigmas 3. Fruit capsular.
A genus of c. 100 species distributed in the tropics, mostly in S. Africa. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
