Tufted plants, semi-parasitic on tree trunks and branches; stem flat, jointed. Leaves absent. Flowers minute, unisexual, in dioecious clusters. Perianth 3-4 lobed. Stamens sessile, epiphyllous. Ovary inferior, sessile. Fruit a berry.
A genus of 45 species, distributed in Africa, Madagascar, Japan, China, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, W. Indies and the Himalayas.
Represented by only 1 species in W. Pakistan.
