Annual herbs, much branched, dense woolly. Leaves minute, linear or spathulate. Capitula heterogamous, disciform, conferrt in globose glomerules; phyllaries 2-seriate, sterome divided.Receptacle epaleate, smooth. Marginal florets filiform, female, outnumbering the central florets; central florets tubular, bisexual. Corollas 4-5 dentate, purple. Anthers caudate, appendices obtuse, endothecial tissues radial. Cypsela ellipsoid or oblong, often with 1-celled globose myxogenic twin hairs, sometimes glabrous; pappus uniseriate with barbellate or plumose setae.
A genus with 8 species, mainly distributed in South Africa but one species also in N Africa to Middle East and Pakistan.
