Latipes Kunth
Perennial. Leaf-blades flat, narrow; ligule a line of hairs. Inflorescence a loose many-sided false raceme, the spikelets solitary or paired and falling together with the enlarged common peduncle. Spikelets linear to lanceolate, awnless; glumes well developed, dissimilar, smooth or tuberculate-spinulose, the lower (but only one of them when the spikelets are paired) modified into a long flat recurved tail, the upper tightly enfolding the floret; lemma broadly ovate, shorter than the glumes, hyaline, 1-nerved; palea minute, up to half as long as the lemma, linear, hyaline; stamens 3. Caryopsis subterete to ellipsoid, slightly laterally compressed.
A genus of 2 species in Pakistan, tropical Africa and the Caribbean region; 1 species occurs in Pakistan.
