Plants autotrophic with short rhizomes and long slender roots. Two broad, subopposite leaves at about the middle of stem. Inflorescence many-flowered. Flowers rather small, greenish. Sepals and petals subequal, slightly campanulate. Labellum spreading, longer than sepals, spurless, flat, bibbed at apex. Column short; anther dorsal, ± incumbent; pollinia 2, bibbed, mealy, without caudicles; rostellum erect, triangular, sensitive to touch, secreting a drop of mucilage (viscidium); stigma entire. Ovary pedicellate.
A genus of about 25 species in the temperate and cold regions of the northern hemisphere. Throughout the Himalayan mountains. 1 species is found in Pakistan.
