Annuals. Leaf-blades linear, folded. Inflorescence a stiff one-sided spike. Spikelets 3-6(-9)-flowered, laterally compressed, subsessile on the ± flattened, narrowly winged rhachis; glumes subequal, narrow, thickly 3-nerved, about as long as the spikelet; lemmas ovate, rounded on the back, finely 5-nerved, subobtuse, with a short straight awn from the tip; palea 2-keeled, stamens 3.
A monotypic genus in the Middle East and southern USSR.
