    Perennials. Leaf-blades linear; ligule shortly membranous. Inflorescence a single raceme, terminal on the culm or from axillary branches; raceme fragile, cylindrical, with 2 sessile spikelets at each node, these placed back to back, sunk into the internode, and separated by a narrow pedicel; internodes thickened, squatly clavate, the pedicels usually free. Sessile spikelet 2-flowered, falling entire, dorsally compressed; callus truncate with a prominent central peg; lower glume coriaceous, broadly convex with the sides sharply inflexed and 2-keeled, smooth or sculptured, winged or not; lower floret reduced to a hyaline lemma; upper floret bisexual, the lemma entire and awnless. Pedicelled spikelet reduced to a tiny scale or absent; pedicel linear.

    A genus of 6 species in Southeast Asia; 1 species occurs in Pakistan.
