A branched annual with subsucculent stems; leaves exstipulate, petiolate, opposite or alternate. Flowers solitary, axillary, yellow, shortly pedicellate; pedicel with 2 basal glands. Sepals 5. Petals 5, connate. Stamens 4, free, didynamous. Carpels 2, syncarpous; ovary 2 loculed with 2-1 ovule in each. Fruit pyramidal, nut like with 4-2 seeds.
A monotypic genus in Tropical Africa, Madagascar and Tropical Asia.
