Herbs or shrubs. Leaves exstipulate, large. Flowers numerous, in peduncled racemes. Perianth 5, small. Stamens usually 10. Carpels 10 or fewer, free or slightly united. Fruit a cluster of berries. Seeds reniform.
A genus with about 35 tropical and sub tropical species. Only 1 species is found in West Pakistan.
