Trees or shrubs, usually evergreen. Leaves alternate, entire. Flowers pedicellate, in corymbs or cymes. Sepals and petals free or basally united. Ovary 2-3-locular. Fruit a capsule; seeds usually embedded in a fleshy pulp, not winged.
