    Dioecious or monoecious evergreen trees with a simple indumentum. Leaves alternate, petiolate, stipulate, simple, entire or toothed, penninerved. Flowers axillary; male flowers densely glomerulate or fasciculate; female flowers 1-3 per axil; bracts small. Male flowers: pedicels very short; calyx 3-6-lobed, the lobes imbricate, unequal; petals 0; disc 0; stamens 2-3 (-4), the filaments free or slightly connate, anthers basifixed, extrorse, longitudinally dehiscent; pistillode 0. Female flowers: pedicels elongate, further extending in fruit; calyx ± as in the ♂; petals 0; disc 0; ovary 2-3-celled, with 2 ovules per cell; styles 2-3, connate at the base, spreading, stigmas dilated, fleshy, papillose. Fruit drupaceous, not lobed; endocarp hard or bony, by abortion 1-celled and 1-seeded. Seed ovoid; testa crustaceous; albumen fleshy; cotyledons broad, flat, palmately-nerved.

    A small genus of 2 species in Tropical Asia, extending from Pakistan to Sri Lanka and Indonesia; one only of these in Pakistan, both wild and cultivated.
