Shrubs or small tree up to 10 m tall. Leaves alternate, serrulate, penninerved, stipules subulate. Inflorescence an axillary cyme. Flowers polygamous, small, green pentamerous. Calyx campanulate, cup-shaped. Petals short, clawed, obovate, acute, hooded. Stamens perigynous, filament thick and short, disc thick, filling the calyx tube, ovary one celled or incompletely 2-celled, totally emersed, style 2-lobed. Drupe oblong black, pyrene 1 seeded, seed membranous.
A small genus of 10 species distributed from W. Himalayas to Japan, New Guinea, Australia (Queensland) and Fiji Islands.
