Protantherous or hysterantherous herbs with thick corms. Leaves solitary, pedate. Spathe long, cylindrical; limb long, acuminate, deciduous; appendage as long as the spathe. Male and female flowers distant, separated by a small zone of neuter club-shaped organs. Anthers 4-locular, with a short stalk. Ovary unilocular with 1-2 basal ovules. Berry 1-seeded.
6 species in tropical Africa and Asia. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
