Annual branched herbs with opposite leaves. Petals absent. Stamens 5 to many. Ovary 3-5 locular, superior. Stigmas 5. Seeds many, reniform. Capsule 3-5 locular, dehiscence circumscissile.

A genus of 8 species; usually halophytes found along tropical and sub-tropical coasts; India, W. Pakistan and Malaya. Represented here by 1 species.
