Rhizome stout. Stem with leaf-sheaths and brown scales at the base. Leaves 3 at the top of the stem. Flowers solitary, trimerous. Perianth segments 6, in 2 whorls, persistent. Stamens 6. Carpels 3; ovary 3-locular; styles 3. Fruit a berry. Seeds numerous.
A genus of c. 30 species extending from the Western Himalayas to China, Japan, Kamtchatka and North America. Represented here by 1 species.
