Rhizomatous herbs. Leaves usually sagittate or hastate, sometimes spotted, long petioled. Spathe large and conspicuous, cuspidate. Spadix monoecious, with male flowers above. Perianth absent. Fruit a 1-3-loculed berry.
8-9 species, tropical and S. Africa. Represented in Pakistan by 1 cultivated species.
