Trees up to 30 m tall with spreading branches and drooping branchlets. Bark peeling off in long strips. Leaves closely appressed. Male cones c. 5 mm long. Female cones 15‑20 mm broad, globose; scales 6‑10 each with a ± curved pointed process. Seeds compressed, wing narrow.
Type: Described from Nepal.
The `Himalayan cypress' is sparingly cultivated in the Murree hills. Wild from Chamba eastward to 2800 m. Wood is durable and used for building purposes; Distribution: E. Kashmir to C. Nepal.
