A deciduous tree, c. 10-20 (40) m tall. Leaf stipulate, c. 15.0-30.0 cm long, leaflets 5-13 pairs, 2.5-10 cm long, 1.2-2 cm wide, oblong or ovate, pointed, pilose, becoming glabrous. Raceme corymbose, 4-10 cm long. Flowers pink. Sepals green. Petal 1.5-2.0 cm long. Stamens 10, 3 long, each swollen in the middle of the filament, 4 short, 3 sterile. Pod 30-70 cm long, c. 1.2-2 cm wide, cylindric, black.

Distribution: Naturally occurs from Eastern Himalaya to Borneo, cultivated in gardens.
Cultivated as an ornamental tree.
