Differs from the type var. angustifolia in having dull green leaves, usually of a larger size, with stellate hairs on the upper surface and the subglobose fruit.

Distribution: Same as that of the type variety.

Has a superficial resemblance with Elaeagnus umbellata Thunb., but differs in the nature of the endocarp and the glabrous style.
