Perennial herbs or basally suffrutescent hairy shrublets with branches densely leafy in basal part and branched above. Leaves alternate, pinnatisect. Capitula discoid, homogamous, solitary or mostly in lax to dense corymbs. Involucre broadly hemispherical or napiform, phyllaries occasionally with dark brown margins. Receptacle convex, glabrous, rarely sparsely hairy. Florets all yellow, bisexaual, with 4-5-lobed corolla tube. Cypselas oblong, 5-ribbed, rarely beset with sessile glands and mostly with myxogenic cells. Pappus a corona of free or fused, dentate or dissected scales.

A small genus of 21 species (K. Bremer & Humphries, l. c.), distributed in Iran, Central Asia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Represented by the following species in our area.


1 Leaf axils with long soft floss. Laminas deeply 3-4-pinnatifid to shallowly pinnatisect with 0.5 – 1.2 mm wide ultimate segments.   1 Tanacetopsis eriobasis
