Plants 10-20 cm tall. Leaves l.3-4 cm long, 1.2-2.8 cm broad, ovate or ovate oblong, with cordate base, obtuse. Scape monophyllous in the lower half portion. Flower l.3-l.5 cm in diameter. Calyx tube c. 2 mm long, lobes 3-5 mm long, 2.5-3 mm broad, oblong, ovate, linear or lanceolate, acute. Petals c.1 cm long, 0.5 cm broad, spathulate, 5 nerved, obtuse somewhat acute, entire or slightly fimbriate. Staminodes broadly dilated upwards, 3-lobed. Capsule obconic below, subhemispheric above. Testa not lax.

Distribution: N.E. Afghanistan, Karakoram, C. Asia, Himalayas, S. Siberia, Tibet, Mongolia and W. China.  
Frequently occurs in wet places in the N.W.
