Ribes emodense Rehd.Ribes rubrum auct.non.L.: Hook.f., and Thoms.
Erect- shrub, 3 m tall. Branches glabrous. Leaves 4-7.5 cm long, 2-7 cm broad, cordate, 3-5-lobed, lobes usually acute or acuminate, inciso¬serrate, basal nerves 3-5; petioles red, 4-8 cm long; fimbriate at the base. Racemes 5-15 cm long, many-flowered, pubescent. Bracts minute, ovate, shorter than the petals. Flowers bisexual, greenish yellow, 7-8 mm long. Calyx tube 4-5 mm long, glabrous, lobes 2-3 mm long, obovate-oblong, obtuse. Petals c. 2 mm long, spathulate. Stamens as long as the petals; anthers small, shorter than the filaments. Style undivided. Berries black, 5 mm in diameter.

Type: N. slopes of Pir Panjal (Pirpenjal) below 3000 m., Jacquemont.
Very common in NW Himalayas, from 2400-4000 m. Berries are edible and are sold as currants for making jams, puddings and cakes etc.
