Stem simple arising from a woody root stock, radical leaves long-petioled, linear or linear oblong, acute or obtuse, crenulate, spikes solitary, erect, stout, cylindric or capitate, densely flowered, flowers brilliantly crimson coloured, drooping.
Type: Hab. in Gosaingsthan Nepalensium, Wallich.
Excluded Species.
Hook. f., Fl. Brit. India 5: 32. 1885 reported from Scinde (Sind) to Sikkim. However, this seems to be an error as there are no high mountains in Sind. This taxon is present from Garhwal eastward.
