A dwarf glabrous perennial with a stout root-stock, covered with membranous stipules. Radical leaves subsessile, narrowly linear, up to 2 cm long, stipules bifid, scape 1-4 cm long, flowers white or pink, in pendulous heads. Tepals 4, unequal, inner orbicular or oblong. Stamens 1-3, trigonous or biconvex, pale, smooth.
Syntypes: Alpine Himalayas, alt. 14-15000 ft; Garhwal and Kumaon, Strachey & Winterbottom, Duthie (K!); Sikkim, J. D. Hooker (K!).
Blatter fide R.R.Stewart, l.c. reported this species from Tosh Maidan, Pir Panjal range Kashmir. However we have not come across any specimen from our area. The actual distribution seems to be from Garhwal eastward to Bhutan.
