Pteropyrum ericoides Boiss., Fl. Or. 4:1002. 1879.

A much branched, up to 1.5 m tall bushy shrub; branches erect to divaricate. Leaves in fascicles of 3-6, sessile, 10-18 x c. 1(-2) mm, sublinear, linear-lanceolate and linear-oblong, acute, often with revolute margin, glabrous or papillose-hairy. Flowers axillary, in fascicles of 2-5, pedicellate, pedicel 3-6 mm long, in fruit up to 8 mm long, articulate at the base, papillose hairy. Perianth segments white-pinkish to red, c. 2 x 1.5 mm, lanceolate to ovate or ovate-oblong. Stamens 1-1.2 mm long. Ovary c. 0.5 mm long. Fruit 3-winged, 4-7 mm across, the upper lobe of each wing is much smaller and almost contiguous with the lower lobe, nut brown.

Fl. Per.: January-April.

Holotype: In Collibus aridis perssiae septentrionalis, and annem Kizil Quzein, Aucher 5269 (G).

A fairly common species in Baluchistan in dry river beds, sand dunes and loose shale; Distribution: Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
