Differs from subsp. flacca: Leaf-blades wider, 2.5-5 mm, scabrous especially towards apex; female spikes erect, shorter but wider, 10-25 x 4-6 mm, with 3-nerved glumes; utricles longer, usually beaked, 3-4 x 1.5-1.6 mm and larger nuts, c. 2.5 x 1 mm.

Fl. Per.: April-July.

Type: Described from Sicily.

Forest glades, meadows; Distribution: From the E Europe to N. Africa and SW Pakistan.

In the area of Flora of Pakistan the species is represented by this subspecies. Reported from Quetta-Urak by R.R.Stewart (l.c.)
