A straggling evergreen shrub, rarely a tree, which differs from Elaeagnus umbellate Thunb. in the larger leaves and fruit.

Fl. Per.: April-May.

Distribution: Burma, Malaya Islands, Srilanka, China, subtropical and temperate Himalaya.

According to Parker (For.Fl.Punj.ed.3.1956) occasionally cultivated and indigenous in swampy areas from the Jumna eastwards. To be expected in Abbottabad and others similar areas from 700-2300 m. The fruit is edible and acidic to taste.
