This species is reported from Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. However, a careful study of the large number of specimens from its entire range of distribution suggests that P. nitidum Fres. is confined to Sinai. All the specimens cited under this taxon from Pakistan belong to P. schweinfurthii Schultz Bip. ex Schweinf. var. androssovii (B. Fedtsch.) Qaiser & Lack.
