Rhododendron collettianum Aitch. and Hemsl. in J. Linn. Soc. (Bot..). 18:75. 1881. Wend. in Rech. Fl. Iran, No. 11:1. 1965.

Aromatic shrubs, 1-2 m; branches yellowish brown, scaly. Leaves petiolate, petiole 4-6 mm long; lamina lanceolate to oblong, 2-6 cm long, 8-25 mm broad, coriaceous, lower surface yellowish-brown, scaly-tomentose. Flowers in clusters of 8-12; bracts scaly; margin ciliate. Calyx lobes oblong, 3-4 mm long, scaly, margin ciliate. Corolla white or pink, saucer-shaped, 1.5-2 cm long, tube hairy inside. Stamens 10, included; filaments barbed. Ovary 5-locular. Capsule scaly tomentose, oblong, c. 5 mm long.

Type: Pakistan: in Kurram Valley, 3000-4000 m, inter Shend Toi et cacumen N. Sikaram, Aitch. 344 (K).

Distribution: A plant of high altitudes from 3000 to 4000 m; endemic in Kurram and Chitral in West Pakistan and Nuristan in Afghanistan.
