Zygophyllum megacarpum Boriss. in Komarov, Fl. URSS. 14:730. 1949. Hadidi in Rech. f., Fl. Iran. 98:25. 1972.

A shrub, up to 2.5 m tall. Stem with greyish bark, young shoots striate. Leaves simple, flat, obovate, spathulate, 1.4-2.5 cm long, 0.7-1.5 cm broad, attenuate at the base, obtuse; petiole as long as lamina; stipules broader than long, acute-acuminate. Flowers pentamerous, yellow, c. 1 cm across; pedicels c. 4 mm long. Sepals 5, 3 broadly ovate, c. 6 mm long, c. 4 mm broad, almost glabrous, hooded, 2 ovate, c. 4 mm long, c. 1.5 mm broad, thinly stellate hairy, acute. Petals 5, broadly ovate, 10-11 mm long, 6-7 mm broad, obtuse. Stamens 10,5 long exserted with c. 13 mm long filaments, 5 shorter and as long as petals, scales ovate, fimbriate, c. 3 mm long. Carpels 5; ovary glabrous, 5-angled, 5-loculed; style filiform, as long as or longer than stamens, persistent. Capsule subglobose, 3.5-4.5 cm long, 3-4 cm broad, 5-winged, 5-loculed, each locule 1-3-seeded, retuse at base and apex. Seeds reniform, 8-10 mm long, 4-5 mm broad.

Type: USSR, Fergana, Distrib. Dshelalabad in declivibus prope Suzak, A. Kalinina and Morena (LE).

Distribution: Iran, Pakistan (Baluchistan) and Russia.

This species is closely allied to Zygophyllum atriplicoides Fisch. & C.A. Mey, but differs in having bright yellow flowers, stamens of 2 sizes and larger capsules.
